Service Description

This is a three week, one evening a week, course designed for the complete novice, new to sewing. This evening course is the same as the 6 week Garment Construction Techniques course but it has been broken down into four, three week evening sessions. Starting at the very beginning of your sewing journey, this valuable course will cover all sewing machine basics, including how to thread the sewing machine, learning about the various stitches and their uses and general care and maintenance of the machine. You will create a range of stitching samples to help boost your confidence with using a sewing machine, then move onto small projects to enhance your skills further. The projects include collars, waistbands, pockets and how to set in sleeves, with techniques for ladieswear and menswear being taught. Part 1 Introduction to the sewing machine. Understanding tension, how to thread, how to maintain your sewing machine. Seam construction. You will make a series of samples demonstrating different types of seams such as basic shirt seam, french seam, felled seams and basic overlocking seams. A guide to different types of hems and finishing. You will learn how to create a turned hem, a rolled hem, a traditional skirt hem and a piped edging. Construction sampling. In this session you will learn how to construct a tailored dart and a fitted dart, inverted, box and knife pleats. What to bring Notebook A4 folder with dividers and envelopes to keep your work All fabrics, equipment and machinery are provided along with tea, coffee and refreshments. Please note :- All workshops are held on the second floor with access via the stairs Hand sanitiser will be provided throughout
