Service Description

Do you have an ever growing pattern stash that you don't know where to start with?  Do you struggle to set in sleeves or get a neat finish on a collar or cuff?  Would you like to improve upon the garment making skills you already have?     This garment making course is for students of all levels, from those who are complete beginners to anyone wishing to raise their skill to a higher level, improve their skills and enhance their knowledge of working with commercial patterns..  The course is suitable for you if you have achieved competence in the use of simple patterns, machinery and garment construction but wish to improve and develop your fitting and garment construction skills to a professional level in all types of garment making. This course will help you to read, understand and interpret commercial patterns.  You will be shown how to prepare and layout your pattern and fabric before cutting.  You will then make and adapt a toile to your own personal measurements before cutting the garment in your own fabrics.  You can work on your own personal projects using your own patterns and fabrics to create the garments that you want to wear.  Each week there will be a demonstration of a different technique for garment construction.  It is also the ideal follow-on course if you have attended our Garment Construction Techniques - A Beginners Guide to Sewing. This six week, one day a week, course runs on Wednesdays 10 - 3, beginning on February 21st and continuing until March 27th. Use of sewing machines, overlockers and all other equipment is provided along with tea, coffee and refreshments. The tutor for this course is Val Wynne who has many years experience as a college lecturer and is now the owner of The Sewing Parlour in Northwich.
